The Department of Geography at MUC Women’s College offers a thorough exploration of both physical and human geography, incorporating spatial analysis, environmental management, and urban planning into its curriculum. By immersing students in the study of geographical processes, climate patterns, and human-environment interactions, the department equips future professionals with the critical knowledge necessary for effective policymaking, sustainable development, and disaster management. Since its establishment in 1962 for General studies and the introduction of the Honours programme in 1982, the Department of Geography has been a cornerstone of academic excellence. The department offers a range of undergraduate programmes, including B.A. and B.Sc. Honours, as well as General courses, aligning with the latest academic frameworks such as the Major and Minor subjects for 3-year and 4-year degree programmes under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and the Flexible Undergraduate Programme (CCFUP) as outlined by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Interdisciplinary collaboration is central to the department, with courses like Environmental Studies involving Science and Humanities departments. Additionally, the department participates in general courses offered by other departments, including English, Bengali, Sanskrit, Political Science, Philosophy, History, and Economics. Demonstrating its commitment to a comprehensive curriculum, the department has not discontinued any courses in the past five years. The faculty is strong, with one Associate Professor and three Assistant Professors, all positions fully sanctioned and filled.
