Maharajadhiraj Uday Chand Women’s College was established on 28thJuly, 1955 with some goals of educating women of Purba Burdwan and its adjoining areas. Originally it was affiliated to the University of Calcutta; later on it came under the University of Burdwan in 1960 and has now been recognized as a ‘Constituent’ College. Department of Political Science was introduced in 1962 keeping with some vision, mission and objectives which are closely associated with the goals of the College. The department within the college has been actively translating its vision into reality over the years. Initially, student enrolment was low, but it has gradually increased. Department is now accommodating 89 students in its 4-years Major (Hons.) programme and 50 students in its 3-years Major (General) programme. Currently, the department is staffed with 4 Assistant Professors and 3 SACT faculties. It boasts a distinguished track record, with students consistently achieving University Rankings in academics each year. The college has articulated a clear vision statement focusing on key aspects of its operations, including the empowerment of women through education, the practical application of acquired knowledge, engagement with the community, delivery of value-based quality education, and the holistic development of students' personalities. The Department diligently works to convert it in to reality.
