After the establishment of the college in 1955, the physics department started its journey in 1957 with a general course of study. However, under the snowballing demand from the students and also due to the progressive scenario of women's education in the area, the honours course was introduced.
It was the year 1998, marked by the relentless, vigilant and hard-core effort of Prof. Ram Renu Bandyopadhyay, the honours course paved its way towards a successful beginning. To begin with, the Honours Course was undertaken by two full-time & five part-time teachers. Currently, there are five sanctioned teaching posts: two Associate Professors and three Assistant Professors, and one Laboratory Attendant breezing the students through a fascinating journey.
Each year brings our students to different prestigious ranks in the University Examination; pursuing research in various institutions all over India and across the globe. It is a great sense of pleasure for us that our students after achieving their graduation from this college, have not only received awards and recognition for their research works in various institutes, mounting our institution high, but have also marked themselves as eminent academicians. We, the teachers, are also filled with pride for those who have secured their placements in other sectors.
